MMkay, a person was stealing from another's house, and the house owner shot the theif - and now the district is suing the house owner because against the law to own a gun where he lived.
OUR CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS ARE BEING TAKEN AWAY!!!
(Right to Bear Arms, in case you dunno what one) (The theif was trespassing, so it is within his rights to shoot the theif)

Which part is insane? The part about the government "forgetting" about the part of the constitution that allow us (used loosley, for I dunno who else lives in the US) TO have guns? Or that the district is *ignoring* the fact that there was a theif there?

Ok... Well I would have to side with the home owner, but only if the force he used was not excessive. I think people have a right to own a firearm and to defend their property, but there have to be limits. Shooting someone because they robbed you isnt justified, but shooting someone in the leg because he broke into your house with a baseball bat and started beating up your family is justified. Here they have this ridiculous law that if you put razor wire or broken glass on the exterior walls of your home, (not the house itself obviously, the perimeter walls) and a burglar cuts himself breaking in, the thief can actually sue YOU for damages! Even if you can prove he injured himself breaking into your property.... I think thats ridiculous... BUt having said that, id do it anyway, id much prefer to be alive and have to face a court case or a fine than to be murdered because I couldnt protect myself.

why even have rights that allow you to protect yourself if you have so many limits that basically don't allow you to protect yourself? why even be allowed to own a gun if you can't use it for your protection? (if thats why you bought it)
has anyone heard of the law thats going into effect here in the US? its basically states that we can carrie a consceled weapon and not let people know it.but i guess that you have to be put on a list that everyone has access to. but arn't we trying to stop violence? will this law help us, or make it worse?
i beleive that it will only make crime worse. but then again i'm against guns and i beleive that they cause un-needed panic and chaos.

Well I read that in some state in america, I cant remember where, they legalised CCW permits (permits to carry a concealed weapon) for civilians and the crime rate HALVED over night. Thats right, crime dropped by 50% OVERNIGHT. Why? Well now the criminals know that if they try to rob or attack someone their victim could put up a fight, and they got scared. Criminals only attack if they have the advantage, CCW permits give ordinary people the means to fight back.

Yes, but if guns were illegal to posses, and sell, there would be much less gun violence.
That is the whole thing about American mentality. You think that you need a gun to protect yourself. Come to canada, you will see that guns can be owned responsibly.
I say, the making and use of handguns illegal and only allow rifles and shotguns. That way, you can not conceal easily and people will know you have a gun.

i beleive that people shouldn't have to carry around a gun to protect themselfs. is our society that bad? should we have to have a gun with us everywhere we go?
what would it be like if there would have been more laws placed about guns? would we have people going around thinking that they can get away with anything? i have had first hand accounts of people thinking that they can, what if there had been a way to stop this?
i also beleive that if we were to just be able to carry around a shotgun or rifle that would just cause the criminals to go and attack someone else. that would just do the opposite of what we want to accomplish.
why should you live in a world where you feel so unsafe that you should carry around a gun to protect yourself? you can never tell who is a criminal or who will become a criminal, how would you know if someone that has the permit to carry around a gun isn't just a criminal that hasn't done anything yet? how will you know if thry would hurt you? how would you know if they won't kidnap you? can we really trust the people that will carry consealed weapons?

Well what i was getting at was that people wouldn't be walking around with rifles or shotguns because they are much to big to carry.
The only reason the government wants people to do this is because it adds to the fear. That is the fear they use to control the masses. I mean that is what makes the news. It is all just self serving at this point. There is much corruption in the government that I wouldnt' be suprise that this bill is being pushed both by the NRA and companies that manufacture guns.
As it stands now, America is turning in a big brother situation where corpoartions are ruling the country and justice is never done.

While possible, I dont think that a weapon affects someones desire to kill, merely their means. If you banned all guns in the world, people would just use knives, or clubs, or their fists. Good point. That is true, that this world is not a safe place. But its not going to get any safer by itself. The only way to protect yourself, to keep yourself and your famils safe, is to do it on your own. You cant rely on anyone else to protect you. The system doesnt work, it creates these criminals. *nods* I fear thats true...

... this thread lacks my reply...
Ok, if all are allowed to have guns: criminals have them, law abiding citizens have them too. Criminals knwo they might get shot if they mess with the law abiding citizens.
But when you ban guns, you leave the law abiding citizens without any protection, you give them a phone number and say: "call us if you are in trouble and we will help"... criminals will always get guns.
Ban violence in movies instead of guns.

Exactly Sniper! The laws only apply to those who obey them. Someone who is capable or murder is capable of illegally acquiring a gun. I think citizens deserve the right to defend themselves... However I dont have a problem with violence in movies, I dont think it has as large an effect on people as the media like to think.
